Hello. Welcome to the Mile Hi Mile.
The philosophy behind the race is to encourage individuals of all ages to PUSH themselves to their highest level of fitness and motivation and complete the MILE HIGH MILE as quickly as possible.
This portion of the website will be devoted to motivating and helping you train for this challenging event. We will be posting tips and guidelines to assist you in improving your mile time.
In recent years there has been a strong emphasis on participating in longer runs including 10k’s and half and full marathons. Training for such events requires training over many miles which have a high stress impact on runner’s feet, knees and hips. Training for a one mile run can still improve your fitness level significantly without all of the mileage. Your strength, endurance and overall level of fitness are seriously challenged during this training and race. Maintaining a heart rate at a higher level for those several minutes becomes much more challenging.
Running a mile to many is simply a warm up. What if you tried to run that mile as fast as you could? What would your time be? What type of fitness level would you obtain? If you average 8 1/2 minutes per mile in a 5 or 10k race, what would your time be just for the one mile? 7 minutes, maybe less? Test yourself someday and see what it takes to sprint for 5280 feet.
Running and other cross training activities can help you to achieve your fitness goal. If you would like a more detailed training regimen, or a treadmill gait and running analysis, please contact PUSHGYM to set up an appointment with one of the physical therapists or trainers.
The Mile High Mile is not just for the elite runner, it is for all. Join in the training and watch your body change as your fitness improves. Good luck with your training and log on to our website for new training tips from the trainers and therapists at PUSHGYM.
